Apply Now for a 2015-2016 ASME Congressional Fellowship Apply Now for a 2015-2016 ASME Congressional Fellowship Apply Now for a 2016-2017 ASME Congressional FellowshipSince 1973, ASME has sponsored mora than 100 Federal Government Fellows, providing them with an opportunity to serve a one-year term in the administration or U.S. Congress. Fellows serve as independent, non-biased advisors in engineering, science and technology, bringing a nonpartisan, pragmatic approach to analysis and input which has a profound impact on the decision making process. The result is effective and technologically appropriate public policy based on sound engineering principles. ASME is currently accepting applications for the 2016-2017 Congressional Fellowship, which is one of several Federal Government Fellowship opportunities offered by the Society. Sponsored by the ASME Foundation, the ASME Petroleum Division and ASME Government Relations, the Congressional Fellowship offers ASME members the chance to s pend one year in Washington, D.C., working with the staff of a congressional committee, U.S. senator or U.S. representative. Congressional Fellowships are designed to demonstrate the value of engineering-government interaction, bringing technical backgrounds and external perspectives to the decision making process in Congress, while providing a unique public policy learning experience to the Fellow.Applicants for the Congressional Fellowship must have a strong energy background. ASME has long supported a balanced portfolio of energy supplies to meet the nations energy needs, including advanced clean coal, petroleum, nuclear, natural gas, waste-to-energy, biomass, solar, wind and hydroelectric power. ASME also supports energy efficient building and transportation technologies, as well as transmission and distribution infrastructure sufficient to satisfy demand under reasonably foreseeable contingencies.
